Koh Samui Regatta

Art after the final race I headed over to the island province of Koh Samui, Thailand on May 25 to stay with Mick and Dtai and participate in the 11th Koh Samui Regatta. Torrential rains along the way but I still made great time - an best of all I had no wait for the 1.5 hour ferry crossing. We started the evening with drinks and then the fun and games started the next day. By that I mean the supposedly light wind regatta started off and carried all the way through with near gale force winds, and squalls, and gusts, and rain! All in all a well run event with great taverns on the beach post race; a couple of nice parties; and good company. It is too bad that we (Nick's Freewind) were placed in an IRC Race Class when the boat is better suited to a Cruising Class. Oh well, we were consistently 4th and on two occasions only 2 seconds and 18 seconds out of 3rd). Our crew consisted of owner Nick, skipper Ray, along with Mick, Wozza, Mae, Nok, and me.
