The Canyons (Bryce, Zion, Grand) with Mom

The drive Long day driving to reach Bryce Canyon National Park. But the 9 hours were through a varied and interesting landscape. We had straight as a narrow and plains, mountains next to lakes, and rolling hills. All through mostly clear and sometimes cloudy skies. Only twice did the black clouds on the horizon drop some rain on us. Red Canyon Next day we headed towards the entrance of Bryce Canyon National Park. Along the way we stopped several times at sights in Red Canyon which had hoodoos and cliffs brilliantly lit by the morning sun. Bryce Canyon At Bryce Canyon we parked outside the park and took the 'free' shuttle to tour the park (hint: if you come this way drive into the park itself and park at the visitors Center and take the shuttle from there - $25 entrance applies to whether you are driving your car in or you are taking the shuttle from the parking area, once in the park everyone can use the shuttle for free). Winnipeg with Kerry & Donna

A two day road trip took me to Winnipeg from Whitecourt, Alberta. Along the way I skirted the edge of a major thunderstorm in Saskatchewan... to the east of me was a storm front, paralleling my route, with black skies and lighting flashes (and later I learned had multiple tornados touching down)... to the west there were clear sunny blue skies. Then on into Manitoba and sun glinting off a lot of ground water. A vast section of the province was covered by an emergency declaration due to flooding, but the roads I was on were all passable. The only 'tight' spot was where the highway goes through Portage la Prairie and dips deep into a valley where the Asiniboine River was up to only a couple of metres below bridge top level and the current flowed fast and furious. NZ Cruise of North Island

Auckland: boarding Off to Auckland to board the ship. Once again avoiding toll roads took us on a twisty windy road to get there. As before unbelievable that speed limits are 100km when 80km is all I could manage. A little clay after returning the rental car before a taxi arrived for the short 1.2km journey to the cruise ship terminal - afternoon congestion meant a $12 fare! From that point we had a few short lines but easily went through luggage check in, security scanning, immigration exit, and Celebrity tag issuance and boarding. Finally a chance to get a drink! Later we met up with the other people in the tour group I booked with for complementary open best and meet the cruise ship officers. Dinner, drinks, and late night to bed as the ship sailed on to The Bay of Islands. Bay of Islands I could not sleep in and went to breakfast early, while Mom slept in (after being disturbed by my phone - which I did not hear during the night).
