2016 Panama Canal: Cabo San Lucas

Early start to the day as we had to be at our meeting point at 6:50am for our Cabo San Lucas tour. That meant an even earlier start to have breakfast. The ship was still under way as we headed to the dining room, and was still under way as we headed to the meet point. No docks large enough in Cabo so tender service was operating.

During the voyage we did have a spotting of a pod of whales swimming alongside ship for a few minutes. A lucky sighting.

Cabo San Lucas is located on the southern most tip of the Baja California peninsula. Our anchorage in the bay gave a great view of the Arco Rock formations, beaches and townscape of Cabo. From 5,000 people in the 80s to the 100,000 today Cabo still remains a small town. Gorgeous beaches and teeming fish schools which lead to sea lions, whales, pelicans and loads of other wildlife. Our tour was an hours cruise of the Bay of Cabo San Lucas at the point where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacfic Ocean. Audio was recorded commentary by Jean-Michel Cousteau.

The landscape of the bay is earth toned, dry, brown, cracked rocks. The bay is ringed by karsts of stone upon which sea lions and birds laze. Quite pretty contrasted against azure waters.

We carried on by land to a vantage point over the bay with panoramic views. Finished by 10:30am with time to stroll the waterfront shops and bars. Mom got a few purchases done and I had a beverage while then having access to the bar's wi-fi.

Days 5, 6, 7
At sea. More of the same of the earlier at sea days. Crafts for Mom, along with attending an art auction. I was partially a good boy and did get a few hours in on the treadmill. For me the highlight was finally seeing the latest Star Wars (The Force Awakens) on the theatre's large screen, and a dance and song tribute to New Orleans called "On the Bayou" which featured an amazing set design.
