Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia

Ivan and the kids headed out back to Alberta and Mom and I headed out for Salmon River on Nova Scotia's Bay of Fundy coast to visit my Aunt Lucia and my cousins and their families. Mom stayed with Aunt Lucia and I stayed with cousin Jeanne and her husband David.

I would love to say that it was all sunny skies but I would be lying. The "F" word made its appearance on many a day (that would be FOG!). Still we did have great days both in Salmon River and out at the LeBlanc cottages. And really when it came right down to it the foggy days were actually wonderful to be out walking (with Jeanne), or jogging (on my own) around the area. And when it counted... the weather was indeed gorgeous. Lovely at the lake. Even better Whale Watching off of Brier Island at the end of Digby Neck and out in the Bay of Fundy.

Most mornings, regardless of weather, I got my daily fix of watching the London 2012 Olympic Games. I cheered on the Canadians who did better in some events and fell short in others. And I really felt for fellow Cape Bretoner, Amy Cotton, who just missed out of advancing in Judo.

Day 3: Island and Beach Tour Note: I’ll add PHOTOS later : my editor on the iPhone is just too different (I’ll post photos instead only on Facebook for now) Peter Tours picked us up for a round the island and beach tour. We were first in the 20 seater bus but collecting others filled it. The Guide & Driver were both named Irwin... The tour was a running commentary on Curaçao and some of its highlights and lowlights. Among the statistics there are an estimated 250,000 illegal immigrants from Venezuela here escaping that country by any means possible. That number is huge when you consider that legal residents only account for around 175,000. In the mix of legal residents there are people of 52 different nationalities.  Our tour covered most of the length of the island. New Brunswick adventure

Hopewell Rocks Had an early start on May 31 to drive to Shediac, New Brunswick, with sun filled skies the entire journey. Would be a 4 hour drive but I took a diversion to go and see Hopewell Rocks which was a 1.6 hour diversion. Tide was high but that made the formations more interesting for me. Still at some point it would be great to see the mudflats at low tide and to see the tidal bore as the tide roars in. And if I ever get a chance to be there mid July to mid August I hear that the flocks of migrating seabirds are quite the spectacle. Pointe du Chêne, Shediac I arrived at 4:30pm at the beachside home of Joan and Don Martell. We had a lot of catching up to do as it had been years since we had last visited. Don gave me the tour of the tourist towns of Pointe du Chêne (and it's lovely sand beach - Parlee Beach) and Shediac. Not a large community but everything is convenient to get to and all fronted by an amazing beach. Next day I headed for the village of Bouctouche

2019 Curaçao part 3

Day 5: Klein Curaçao  15 miles off the southeast point of Curaçao, is the 1.7 km squared uninhabited island of Klein Curaçao. We did this day trip along with many others as it’s one of and possibly the most popular activity amongst visitors to Curaçao. You can only get there by boat with duration depending on boat (45 minutes to 2.5 hours) - with our boat, Serendipity, taking over an hour and a half. We traveled with Miss Ann Boattrips ( https://www.missannboattrips.com/en/trips/klein-curacao/ ). Klein Curaçao prides itself in its white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and a very spectacular and colourful underwater scenery. Our main guide was a gal named Ishi, and our captain was Niko. We boarded at the marina in Jan Sopha via a short tender to a much big yacht. Departure finally at 7:40 and around 1 hour 30 minutes to Klein Curaçao all the while heading into a strong wind. On the really flat island with no tall vegetation the high point is the lighthouse.
