2016 Road Trip with Kerry & Donna - Halifax

Mom and I drove up from Salmon River to collect Kerry and Donna at Halifax Airport, and then to the Lord Nelson Hotel where Kerry, Donna, and I stay for 3 nights. Mom headed out to Stewiacke to spend a night with a friend before heading home to Cape Breton.

So exploring Halifax is lovely but better without rain drizzling and raining down on us. We mostly had overcast and some rain.  The first night we stayed close around the hotel before settling in for a burger and a flight of craft beer at the hotel's pub.

Next day we took public transit over to Dartmouth to check out the RV we will be renting. We then had lunch at the very busy Mic Mac Diner which is located next door to Canadream RV Rentals. The bus system being rather slow and with rain coming in we called for a taxi and headed back to Halifax and with the Casino as our destination. Normally I am not a gambler but we killed time on the slot machines and all three of us came away with winners (enough to cover the taxi fare from Dartmouth). Dodging rain we explored the waterfront: Historic Properties and its shops, the piers and the Tall Ships there, as well as the boardwalk.  Last stop was Pete's Fine Foods for rye bread, feta and olives in oil, old cheddar and salami for a make our own dinner with a fine bottle of Il Passo Italian Red Wine. After dinner with the sun shining we wandered through the Public Gardens (which very conveniently are located across the street from the Lord Nelson).

After a late sleep in and once again under overcast skies we climbed the hill and arrived at The Citadel 10 minute prior to the shooting of the Noon Day Canon. Quite the bang and concussion it makes! We carried on to spend an hour exploring the fort - not so many staff in costume at this time of year but also no crowds to contend with.  Then once again to the waterfront - this time the Seaport near pier 21 - with its Farmer's Market, small stall shops, and Garrison Brewing for beer sampling. We closed off the day (our last in Halifax) meeting my friends Stephen and Kathy MacKay for dinner at 2 Doors Down restaurant.
