2016 Road Trip with Kerry & Donna - Cabot Trail

We picked up the RV just after noon and after an hour signing papers and orientation we were on our way. A bit different driving a larger rig with the wind wanting to push us off the road. We stopped for lunch along the way and then once again to stock up on supplies and gas (we’ll be doing a lot of that).  Then we found a lovely end of road spot on the ocean near North Judique to spend our first night watching the surf crash the rocky shore.

Nice blue skies in the morning with fishermen out in their boats and quite near into shore! The blue skies clouded over but the rain held off as we headed out. First stop was in Cheticamp for lunch and then continuing onto the Cabot Trail. Quite a bit of road construction happening before the tourist season begins. But with little traffic it was no problem and the RV was great in Tow mode climbing and descending the elevations. The surprising bit was still having snow / frozen ice along several sections of the trail. By 4:00pm we were in the Cape North area and continued on for a little to turn off into the fishing village of Dingwall for the evening (fantastic views from our free stopping site!)

We had a wonderful time in Dingwall right up till the end. We watched fishing boats charge through the opening in the double breakwater (and they had white water trails to prove their speed). We had a nice walk into the village area and back followed by an evening of cribbage. More of the same in the morning until I drove the rear wheels into soft sand (up to the axles) and there we stood till “Daniel” arrived and attempted removal with a pick up - and when that failed called around till he found a man with a digger/tractor which did the job and off we went to Baddeck. Timing was later than planned so we headed straight to the Baddeck Cabot Trail Campground to plug in, recharge, dump needed dumping and enjoy a sunny warm evening.

Tomorrow straight to North Sydney for the ferry to Newfoundland.

Day 3: Island and Beach Tour Note: I’ll add PHOTOS later : my editor on the iPhone is just too different (I’ll post photos instead only on Facebook for now) Peter Tours picked us up for a round the island and beach tour. We were first in the 20 seater bus but collecting others filled it. The Guide & Driver were both named Irwin... The tour was a running commentary on Curaçao and some of its highlights and lowlights. Among the statistics there are an estimated 250,000 illegal immigrants from Venezuela here escaping that country by any means possible. That number is huge when you consider that legal residents only account for around 175,000. In the mix of legal residents there are people of 52 different nationalities.  Our tour covered most of the length of the island. Starting from our hotel heading south and east as we collected other passengers. Along the way we crossed over one of the higher bridges of Willemstad with views over it and Otrobanda. 2016 Road Trip: Saint Pierre et Miquelon

A whole slew of school kids were exiting the arriving ferry… things would be slow to get us underway. Scheduled departure from Fortune Newfoundland to Saint Pierre was 15:00. We actually set off at 15:30. Then there is a time difference - so close but still another 1/2 hour…. The crossing was choppy, foggy, and chilly. The arrival … the same!  The Tourist Information Centre was closed but one of the Ferry staff spotted us and assisted in selecting an hotel for the evening. Our digs for the evening, Hotel Robert, was drab on the outside but had a great room for us to stay with a bathroom almost the size of our RV. From check in it was out to explore a bit of the town under overcast skies and slight drizzle. We then checked out the top two restaurants - they were both booked solid for the evening (the gal at Le Feu de Braise was welcoming and apologetic that she could not seat us, the guy at L’Atelier Gourmand was haughty and rude and could care less  as he turned us away).  Nex

New Brunswick adventure

Hopewell Rocks Had an early start on May 31 to drive to Shediac, New Brunswick, with sun filled skies the entire journey. Would be a 4 hour drive but I took a diversion to go and see Hopewell Rocks which was a 1.6 hour diversion. Tide was high but that made the formations more interesting for me. Still at some point it would be great to see the mudflats at low tide and to see the tidal bore as the tide roars in. And if I ever get a chance to be there mid July to mid August I hear that the flocks of migrating seabirds are quite the spectacle. Pointe du Chêne, Shediac I arrived at 4:30pm at the beachside home of Joan and Don Martell. We had a lot of catching up to do as it had been years since we had last visited. Don gave me the tour of the tourist towns of Pointe du Chêne (and it's lovely sand beach - Parlee Beach) and Shediac. Not a large community but everything is convenient to get to and all fronted by an amazing beach. Next day I headed for the village of Bouctouche
